Up there with Grand Finals, St. Patrick’s Day, and any morning you get to drink a nice juicy mimosa, one of the most exciting events of the year has arrived… Happy Survivor Premiere Day! The 36th instalment of Jeff’s game is shaping up to be an absolute cracker, with an evenly matched cast of super fans, a spooky haunted island, and a game design that looks set to inspire a season long ode to Survivor folklore. At TTHS, we can’t wait for the action start! Each Wednesday we’ll be assessing the resumes of the remaining castaways and ranking their chances of success from first to worst. It’s time to make our final set of preseason predictions… Hope you enjoy the premiere!

The BOOT LIST: Preseason Edition
Brendan 1
The dad of the group has been waiting 17 years to play the game he believes he was tailor made to play, and seems to have the look of an old school winner. The next time he tailgates a ball game he might just be riding in with a million bucks in the trunk.
Kellyn 2
The small town girl who’s going to use her empathetic ‘superpower’ for ‘evil’ gain is hungry for success and looms as one of the major threats.
Desiree 3
Desiree was made to conquer Ghost Island – she wanted to bring a picture of a skeleton on a grave as her number one luxury item!
Chelsea 4
The EMT who moonlights as a professional cheerleader and loves kicking back with a beer to watch the footy is my number one smokey to sneak under the radar. Big danger.
Donathan 5
This hillbilly butterfly is ready to “spread his wings” and looks set to become one of the characters of the season. I don’t think anyone will let him win, but I can see him sticking around for a long, long time.
Wendell 6
Wendell wants to play like an officer who’s playing like a criminal and just has the look of a winner. If he can keep his arrogance in check he’ll be a major threat.
Libby 7
If Andrea 2.0 can follow in the steps of her prototype she’ll be sitting pretty for an end game tilt. The jury is out but I have high hopes.
James 8
The man with monster IQ is growing on me with every passing second. In addition to having a kind soul, he massively respects the game, and looks set to take the strategic element to a whole new level. One to watch.
Sebastian 9
Ozzy 4.0 is basically a lock for the merge – with the reduced rice rations this year, his fishing skills will make him Navit’s greatest asset. However it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to reverse the curse of the nice guy being bilndsided post merge. A long stint on the jury bench awaits.
Michael 10
The baby of the cast seems like a switched on guy but it’s still hard to see the jury handing the title to an 18 year old. Not without a chance.
Laurel 11
The Ivy League graduate will likely be setting the pace in the early stages, but I think she’s going to come across as too much of a threat to survive past the midpoint. Has claims, but not for me at this stage.
Stephanie G 12
The gunslinging Peurto Rican looks set to play a highly entertaining and attacking brand of Survivor, but ultimately I think she’ll be cut down as the ‘head of the snake’ around the merge.
Jenna 13
Jenna wants to make a few enemies on the jury to prove that she’s played a hard game – which is fine from a strategic point of view but ignores the fact that at least a third of the game is social. Not feeling the vibe.
Morgan 14
I’m struggling to place Morgan at this early stage – she seems extremely friendly but might be slightly outclassed by the rest of the field. Need to see more.
Domenick 15
The smug ex-smoking-craps-dabbler-turned-proud-father is going to provide a few great lols in the early episodes before being kicked out for playing too hard, too soon. Hard to have.
Jacob 16
The first few tribals will be the greatest hurdle for this season’s number one Survivor nerd – if he can form enough social bonds to make it through he’ll be a chance. Too risky to back at this stage.
Bradley 17
Probably the biggest challenger to Jacob’s title, Bradley’s initial strategy is to hide the fact that he’s a law student – seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion… I can see him crashing and burning very early on.
Angela 18
I’m still not feeling a strong connection to Angela, which probably means that she’ll quickly become an outsider on her tribe. Yet to impress.
Stephanie J 19
Stephanie J undoubtedly wins the award for best stripes on the island, but I think that’s about where the accolades are going to end for this free spirited soccer mum.
Chris 20
Someone has to be the first one out, so it might as well be the guy who seems to think that he’s ‘all that’.

Tristan Kelly is a 29 year old ex-doctor turned writer, based in Perth, Western Australia. During his final year of medical school he famously watched and analysed every available episode of Survivor (all 368 of them at the time), probably making him more qualified as a Survivor commentator than he ever was a doctor. In between writing and editing, he now spends most of his time organising various schemes and fantasising about one day winning the game.
